There are a gamut of web hosting providers in the market today that offer huge quantities of web space and bandwidth for a much low price. However, there are always conditions and limits attached to every such offer. So it is always advised to do a thorough research to make an informed and wise decision of buying a web hosting plan for your business. The web hosting company should offer you a reasonable amount of web space and bandwidth suiting your requirements, at an affordable price. Webhosts offering plans with small web space and bandwidth generally tend to maintain their market reputation.

Nevertheless, before purchasing your hosting plan, you must know your requirement for web space and bandwidth. Don’t worry; you don’t need any advanced calculus for this. Just a calculator will do the job for you. Firstly, you must know the measurement you are dealing with. Web hosts generally show the bandwidth in either MB (megabytes) or GB (gigabytes), wherein 1 MB equals 1048576 bytes, and 1 GB equals 1073741824 bytes and 1 GB consists of 1024 MB (something you must remember always).

In order to calculate the total space (or web space) for your business, store all the data, web pages, images and your downloaded files into one folder and label it as you like. Now open your Windows explorer and bring your mouse over this folder, it will display the size of your website in a small pop-up window. If your website is not yet completed, or if you intend to add more pages as you move along, you can just purchase the smallest web hosting plan catering to your needs at the present time, which can be upgraded to a larger plan at the later stage.

In case of bandwidth, make an assumption on how much traffic on your website you can expect in a day on an average. If already using a website, just check your statistics for the bandwidth you are using currently each month. A website can on an average generate web traffic from 50 to 500 visitors a day. Looking at the higher side, you would need 3-5 GB of data transfer a month. For more than 500 visitors a day, you would need around 50-60 GB of data transfer a month for your website.
